In 1999, I took a self-study approach to
learning
realtime voice writing since there were no schools teaching the method
at the time. I became a Certified Court Reporter through the State of
Louisiana and Certified Verbatim Reporter through the National Verbatim
Reporters Association (NVRA) in 2000, attained my Realtime Verbatim
Reporter certification from the NVRA the following year, and have used
speech recognition from the inception of my realtime career.
I've spoken with people around the country
who
have expressed concerns regarding the use of this technology for
realtime services, and too many of their important questions had gone
unanswered, so I decided to write Voice Writing Method™.
Contained in this book are a combination of
techniques that have been practiced through the years by computer-aided
transcription (CAT) vendors and numerous voice writing professionals
along with myself. Pooling together all of these resources, I have
extracted the techniques that best work for voice writers generically
and blended them together into one method for ease of use.
My message is that it is possible to provide
accurate realtime services with speech recognition, and my objective is
to provide a basic education on how to achieve it.
